Justin Ederle, an Act 22 beneficiary, was arrested this week after failing to show up to court to explain why he should not be forced to hand over financial and tax documents to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), according to court records reviewed by Heavy Weather. The incident comes a little over a year after the federal tax agency first requested the documents and months after it asked the federal court to enforce a summons sent to Ederle.

Ederle was arrested to ensure he would show up to his court hearing to enforce the summons. The hearing took place on December 17 and he was present under custody, according to court records. He was ordered to give the IRS the documents by 5pm the following day and warned that not producing the records could lead to a second contempt finding and an arrest warrant being issued, per the court records.
